A DARLINGTON businesswoman has beaten off competition from hundreds of female entrepreneurs to be shortlisted for a prestigious award.
Gill Chapple, the brains behind Bedsearcher, is hoping to clinch first prize in the Artemis category at the 2004 Natwest everywoman Awards next month.
The 25-year-old set up Bedsearcher in May 2002 to help smaller accommodation providers compete against larger hotels.
The company provides a guide to UK bed and breakfasts, hotels and guest houses, and accommodation can be booked online at www.bedsearcher.co.uk
Despite not being able to secure a loan and having little experience, her business is now turning over £1.5m and she is in negotiations over a £3.5m expansion deal.
Claire Martin, head of external affairs at Natwest said: "Gill faced many obstacles in the early days of Bedsearcher.
"However, she has never let these challenges deter her from making her business a success.
"Gill is a fantastic role model to all entrepreneurs and we are delighted she is a finalist at this year's awards."
The award ceremony will be held at The Royal Opera House, in London, on December 8 and attended by Nigel Griffiths, minister for small business and enterprise.
Everywoman co-founder Maxine Benson said: "Gill's determination and drive to succeed has grown into massive success, making her a strong contender in the business world. We wish Gill every success at the final stage of the awards."
