A PROOF-OF-AGE card is to be introduced for youngsters claiming half-fare on buses in the borough of Stockton.
The card, which will be launched by the Stockton Bus Quality Partnership, will hopefully prevent disputes with drivers over whether young people are under 16 and entitled to travel at half-fare.
Youngsters will need to take proof of their age, such as their birth certificate, to the Arriva and Stagecoach Travel centre on Stockton High Street. There will be a 30p charge.
Councillor Bob Cook, of Stockton Borough Council, said: "Stockton Bus Quality Partnership is bringing in the cards because our Salters Lane residents' group said we should do something to stop arguments over age."
Doug Elphee, from the partnership, said: "It is unfair to expect drivers to be able to tell exactly whether someone is 16 or under and this card should be a big help. We recommend that anyone who is 14 or 15 and is challenged by a driver should get a card."
