A YOUNG woman died and two people were injured in a car crash on Monday night.
The two-vehicle accident happened on the A170, between Wilton and Thornton-le-Dale, near Pickering, North Yorkshire, at about 9pm.
A police spokesman said that a woman in her early 20s, from Thornton-le-Dale, died at the scene.
The accident happened when a silver Citroen Saxo travelling towards Scarborough and being driven by the young woman was in collision with a blue Skoda Octavia, which was heading in the direction of Pickering.
A man and a woman in the Skoda were treated at Scarborough General Hospital for minor injuries and shock.
Acting Sergeant Andy Langford said police wanted to trace a vehicle that was travelling in front of the Saxo just before the collision.
The Saxo may have carried out an overtaking manoeuvre before the crash, lost control and hit the front of the Skoda. The impact left the Saxo on the verge and the Skoda in the middle of the A170.
Witnesses are asked to call PC Ian Barratt on (01723) 509555.
