PEOPLE are being invited to use the newly opened caf bar within a theatre complex.

An large serving area of the Gala Theatre at Durham has been refurbished to create a new caf bar, Intervals.

Theatre bosses hope people will drop in to sample the fare throughout the day, rather than it be used just by theatre and cinema-goers attending events at the Gala.

Previously the bar and caf outlets were located separately on the ground floor, but they have now been brought together offering a wide variety of drinks and meals.

The aim is to re-locate the existing box office, now alongside the tourist information centre, to where the caf was previously situated, ensuring it is the first thing to customers see when arriving at the complex.

Marketing manager Amy Lynch said: "We think Intervals is an excellent place to meet friends, unwind and enjoy views of Durham.

"Intervals offers the perfect place to eat and drink in style.

"It will provide a wide selection of fresh salads and pasta, gourmet sandwiches, tasty snacks and mouth watering cakes and pastries.

"Visitors can enjoy all this with a nice glass of wine, a cold beer or a fresh coffee."

Among the first to try the new look Intervals caf bar were some of the leading cast members of the latest production at the theatre, the Derek Benfield hit comedy Anyone for Breakfast.

Enjoying a late breakfast before last night's performance were Ross Davidson, formerly of television series Eastenders and Hollyoaks, Ann Marie Davies, who has also had soap exposure in Brookside, and Martino Lazzeri, another former Hollyoaks star.

The comedy centres around extra-marital activity, misunderstanding, mistaken identity, and a trail of guilty secrets.

Anyone for Breakfast runs until Saturday, and starts at 7.30pm every night, with a 2pm performance today.

Tickets range from £17 to £12 and can be booked via the theatre's box office by calling 0191-332 4041
