A PUBLIC exhibition sharing ideas for the future of Bishop Auckland town centre which was scheduled for this week has had to be postponed.

The display was expected to open today in the town, with residents and traders invited to give their opinions on the suggested changes.

The week-long exhibition, at Bishop Auckland Town Hall library, is now planned for early next year. Design and architectural experts Red Box, of Newcastle, were appointed by Wear Valley District Council in May to update an earlier development scheme for the town centre, first produced four years ago.

The final plan will be submitted to development agency One NorthEast for funding.

A spokesman for the consultancy team said: "We have delayed the exhibition to carry out some further work on the proposals.

"The council has asked us to carry out some more analysis and draw up more specific details about particular schemes and areas of the town.

"The public and businesses will still get a chance to have their say."
