RESIDENTS are being asked for their views on a city's new car parking charges.

City of York Council wants people to tell them how parking can be improved in the future.

This could include being able to pay via credit card or mobile phone and using electronic Minster or residents' discount badges in car parks.

People will also be asked whether they would like to see more designated evening parking bays in the city centre streets.

Anyone who takes part in the consultation will be eligible to enter a free prize draw to win a one-year car parking season ticket, valued at £1,522.

The consultation, which will take place in St Sampson's Square on November 18 and 19 and Marygate, Monk Bar and Nunnery Lane car parks from November 18 to 21, ties in with the introduction of the evening parking charges.

From Monday, residents who display a Minster badge will be able to park all evening for £1, with non-residents paying £2.
