A SURVEY of all the public toilets in Teesdale is to be carried out.
The survey, by Teesdale District Council, will assess the condition of each toilet and also try to determine how often they are used.
The district council attracted criticism for temporarily closing some of its public toilets for a month in the summer in an effort to save money.
The matter was referred to the council's Overview and Scrutiny Committee to look at the toilet provision for the dale.
At the committee's meeting yesterday, Councillor Richard Bell said: "An audit of each toilet in Teesdale is to be carried out to look at what kind of condition they're in and then do a report on the anticipated capital costs, also to get information on the operational use of the toilets."
Councillors Pauline Charlton and Ken Hodgson agreed to help council officers carry out the survey.
