SCIENCE and technology companies across the region were given a boost last night when a £35m venture capital fund was launched.
Nstar has launched the North-East Co-investment fund to work with trade investors and other venture capital funds to increase the number of investment deals in the region.
The fund will focus on technology-related companies, targeting those looking for up to £2m.
NorthStar Equity Investors (NSEI), a specialist fund management company based in Newcastle and set up by NStar, will manage the £23m fund.
Andrew Mitchell, chief executive of NStar, said: "We believe that the growth of knowledge-based companies built around scientific and technological innovation will help to secure the future of our region.
"The availability of investment finance will be crucial to securing this growth. This is where the new Co-investment fund comes in."
