Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal road accident which took place in Teesdale last night.
Shortly before 10pm on the A67 Darlington to Barnard Castle road, a Honda CRX car travelling east towards Gainford left the road at Arlaw Banks, two miles east of Barnard Castle.
The car collided with a tree before crashing through a fence and coming to rest in a field.
The driver, a 23-year-old man from the Darlington area, was released by fire crews from Darlington and Barnard Castle.
However, he sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at Darlington Memorial Hospital.
Anyone who saw the incident is asked to call PC Andy Edgar at Durham Constabulary Accident Unit on 0191-375 2159.
