A SCHOOL's plans to develop its football facilities have taken a step forward.
Pelton Roseberry Sports College at Pelton, near Chester-le-Street, achieved specialist status over a year ago.
It hopes to build an all-weather synthetic pitch with floodlights and has sought funding from the Football Foundation, which is encouraging grassroots participation in the sport.
The school, formerly known as Pelton Roseberry Comprehensive, plans to site the pitch on part of a hard court play area and playing field to the east of the refurbished changing rooms and sports hall.
Yesterday, Durham County Council's planning committee approved a recommendation to grant the scheme approval.
A report from head of planning John Suckling said the facilities would be available for use both by school pupils and people in the local community.
The opening hours for the facility would be 8am to 9pm Mondays to Fridays and up to 8pm at weekends.
Mr Suckling said that there would be limited views of the new floodlighting lighting columns.
