EAST Durham residents can learn more about local and family history next week.
Murton Library, near Seaham, is holding a history open day on Friday that will look at the pit village's past.
There will be displays, books, maps and information, and local history enthusiasts will be on hand throughout the day to give help and advice.
David Butler, from the County Record Office, is bringing a microfiche reader, so that visitors will be able to see records not normally available at Murton Library.
Susan Weightman from the library said: "We held a small local history event two years ago when we launched the book Memories of Murton, which went down very well, so we thought we'd put on a bigger event this time."
The event runs from 9.30am to 7pm. For details, call the library on 0191-526 2025.
