A YOUTH club is expanding after volunteers revamped a storeroom.
Seven young people gave a much-needed makeover to a room in the YMCA building in Parliament Street, Consett.
The group, whose average age was 16, refurbished the storeroom as part of the Prince's Trust Team Challenge.
The 12-week course is aimed at giving job-seekers the skills needed for their careers, such as teamwork and problem-solving.
Course leader Helen Daglish said: "They have developed a lot of skills, especially working as a team.
"They are really proud of the room and what they achieved."
The room will be used by the trust and will also allow the YMCA to expand facilities for its youth club in the new year.
The group raised more than £350 to pay for materials needed through raffles and coffee mornings.
They also appealed through The Northern Echo for donations of goods and help from specialists such as carpenters and painters.
Mrs Daglish said: "We have had a great deal of help and are really grateful. They helped the kids achieve a lot."
Peter Haney, of Consett, donated four double-glazed windows, while Storeys Carpets and Imax supplied laminate flooring, wood and a door at cost price.
Joiner Dean Lowther helped with the woodwork, staff from Elite Carpets fitted the floor and Brian McKenzie and John Laddie fitted the windows.
