AN environmental campaign boosted kerbside recycling in Darlington by more than 100 tonnes last month.
The £450,000 Waste Smart project involved raising awareness of recycling issues in Darlington and County Durham.
Canvassers visited more than 18,000 homes across the Darlington borough and hosted several events to convey the message.
As a result, the amount of material collected at the kerbside last month rose from 340 to 450 tonnes.
Councillor Stephen Harker, Darlington Borough Council's cabinet member for environmental services, said: "The response shows how keen residents are to get involved with recycling and to do their bit for the environment."
