A PLUMBING apprentice haswon an award for his studies.
Ian Sancaster, 18, of Gilesgate, Durham, has won the JB Wilkinson Shield for the region's best plumbing student from the Worshipful Company of Plumbing Masters.
It is the first time a student at New College Durham has received the honour.
The teenager, who is in his final year at the college, was judged on work for his NVQ level two qualification.
Ian, who works for local firm D and J Franks and spends one day a week in college, said: "It is hard work combining college with work but it will be worth it in the end when I am a qualified plumber.
"I already train a level two apprentice at work and I would like to start my own business in a couple of years.''
Plumbing lecturer Simon Place said Ian had produced a top rate portfolio for the award and had proved himself a conscientious student.
