PEOPLE interested in becoming foster parents can find out the best way to get started.
Middlesbrough Council's executive member for social care and health, Councillor Brenda Thompson, is keen for people to find out more about fostering and the benefits it can provide for children.
She said: "In the last five years, the number of Middlesbrough foster carers has almost doubled, but we are always in need of more.
"We need carers for all ages, from young babies to teenagers. The children may need foster care for a few days, a few months or several years.
"Even people who are not available full-time can become respite foster carers and can operate for specified short periods of time."
The fostering team will be in the Rainbow Centre, at Coulby Newham, from tomorrow, for three days, from 10am to 4.30pm.
Fostering team manager Jane Wilson said: "There is no such thing as a typical foster carer, so we are asking people not to rule themselves out. If they apply, we will give them thorough preparation for their new role.
"Then, if they are approved, they will get guidance and support from a member of the fostering team, regular training with the chance to progress to an NVQ award, and formal and informal support for all members of the family."
Anyone unable to attend the open days can contact the fostering team on (01642) 300870.
