A CATERING company's drive to improve hospital food will be recognised today.
Haden Buildings Management Ltd, which provides meals at Durham's University Hospital and runs its Bedes restaurant, will be presented with the National Heartbeat Award this afternoon.
This is given to caterers who provide non-smoking areas in restaurants, offer healthy eating options and meet food hygiene standards.
The award will be presented to Terry Brymer, hospital catering manager, by Dr Tricia Cresswell, director of public health for Durham and Chester-le-Street Primary Care Trust (PCT).
Dr Cresswell said by offering healthy choices and providing non-smoking areas, caterers could help to reduce ill-health.
