THE name of a £120m development planned for Scarborough's North Bay has been announced as The Sands.
The 50-acre site will be turned into 100 private apartments, 320 holiday homes, a hotel and conference centre, a covered 75,000sq ft water park with restaurants, shops and cafes, an indoor and outdoor sports area and adventure play areas, a casino and a health and fitness centre.
Benchmark, the Northallerton-based company behind The Sands, was granted outline planning permission last month and is preparing detailed planning applications.
Michele Dixon, the managing director of Anderson Advertising, which worked with Benchmark on the naming of the development, said: "The Sands seemed to be the ideal name. It is close to the North Bay beach, which is central to any stay in Scarborough, yet it is appropriate for those who will be living, holidaying or spending time there and reflects the high-quality image of the development.
