STRUGGLING retailer WH Smith filled a key boardroom post yesterday with the appointment of Severn Trent chief executive Robert Walker as chairman.
The 59-year-old takes the place of Richard Handover, who said in January that he intended to step down after a 40 year career with the group.
Kate Swann - Mr Handover's replacement as chief executive last year - said the company's new chairman had extensive experience in consumer markets.
Mr Walker will take on the part-time role in February, at the same time as he ends a six-year term as chief executive at the utility group Severn Trent.
