THE minimum wage has had a growing impact on retailers, with most paying at least £5 an hour to sales staff - 15p more than the statutory rate.
An analysis of pay rates at 100 companies by research group Incomes Data Services (IDS) showed that many had increased their lowest pay rates by nearly eight per cent this year to match or stay ahead of the minimum wage.
Some had increased their lowest rates of pay to £5 an hour and some had moved their pay review dates to October to coincide with the uprating of the minimum wage.
