TEACHERS were in the firing line when a group of students threw soaking wet sponges at them to raise funds for Children in Need.
The sponge-throwing event was just one of many things organised by pupils at Sunnydale Comprehensive School last Friday.
Both teachers and students made a donation to take part in a non-uniform day and year 11 pupil David Newbold dressed up as Freddie Mercury for a Queen karaoke. A penalty shoot-out and a sponsored run also took place, which the school hopes will help raise more than £500.
Staff at Asda also did their bit for the charity. Children in Spennymoor sang on the radio in-store while Bishop Auckland staff held a Pudsey Pamper day and auction.
Kensington Dental Surgery in Cockton Hill, Bishop Auckland, dressed in rugby strips for the day.
A fundraising week at Bishop Auckland College, which included a sponsored wax, raised over £774 and staff and children at Pixley Dell Day Nursery, Spennymoor, wore pyjamas all day while having a Teddy Bears picnic.
Pupils at King Street Primary, Spennymoor, held a fancy dress and sold sandwiches while Bishop Auckland Town Hall held a Grand Folk Extravaganza.
