POLICE hunting the killer of North Yorkshire prostitute Lyndsey Bourne were yesterday following new lines of inquiry following an appeal on BBC's Crimewatch.

Murder squad detectives reported a "good" response following the nationwide prime-time plea for help to catch the killer.

"We will have to evaluate what we have got," said Detective Superintendent Bill Shackleton, who is leading the hunt. "We had well over 30 calls and are following up a number of lines of inquiry.

"I am pleased with the public's response and would encourage anyone with any more information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to contact us."

Ms Bourne, a 28-year-old from Selby, was last seen on September 9 in Sovereign Street, Leeds, where she had been working as a prostitute. Last month, her severed leg was found by a man walking his dog in the Meanwood area of the city. It was identified as Ms Bourne's by a distinctive cherry tattoo.

Det Supt Shackleton said they were particularly keen to speak to her former clients and pledged their identities would be kept confidential.

"The inquiry team are aware of the identities of a number of men which we have uncovered during the investigation that have not come forward voluntarily and we will be speaking to them.

"We would encourage them to come forward and save themselves the embarrassment of us having to go to them."
