SUNDERLAND manager Mick McCarthy performed the honours to launch the city's first multiplex cinema last night.
The former Irish national team boss ceremonially cut through a reel of film to mark the opening of the Cineworld complex.
Joined by members of the Black Cats' first team squad and other civic guests, he then settled down to take in the new animated blockbuster The Incredibles in the 300-seat main auditorium.
For those preferring more high-brow viewing, Vanity Fair was shown on one of the cinema's other 11 screens.
The complex, in the River Quarter, off High Street West, is open to the public from tomorrow.
