IT'S out with the old and in with the new when it comes to spending a penny in Stockton.
Gone are the old underground toilets in Stockton High Street, which have now been replaced by some bright new ones.
Work began in May on the £550,000 scheme - which includes separate facilities for those with disabilities and baby changing. The project also includes the refurbishment of the Market Hall.
The scheme involved relocating the markets office to the main market hall and converting these offices and others to provide the new toilets.
The Shambles Market Hall has been transformed and refurbishment includes the installation of new shop fronts and shutters to all of the units, in keeping with the building's Georgian character, and a roof, incorporating natural lighting.
The existing toilets will be demolished early next year to provide additional space for both recreational events and Stockton market.
The new toilets will be opened by the Mayor of Stockton, Councillor Jennie Beaumont, and Councillor Steve Nelson, Stockton Borough Council's cabinet member for the environment, on Thursday, December 2.
