AN Olympic medal-winning swimmer has congratulated visually-impaired students on a triumph of their own.
Steve Parry, who took bronze in the men's 200m butterfly in Athens earlier this year, called to see swimmers from Henshaws College, Harrogate, after the team returned from a recent swimming gala with 15 medals.
During his visit, Parry, who broke the Commonwealth record at the games, showed his medal to the triumphant Henshaws team.
He also took a tour of the campus, which is home to 65 visually-impaired students aged 16 to 23, before opening the college's new residential block.
He said: "It has been such a privilege to visit Henshaws College, which is clearly doing such wonderful things for its students.
"I had a fantastic time meeting the swimming team and it was an honour to congratulate them on their success."
Student Claire Emblin, who won a relay bronze, said: "I really enjoyed swimming in the gala in front of my mum and dad, and it was brilliant to meet Steve."
