A SMOKER has raised money for a disabled child by kicking the habit after many years.

June Peel, 47, of Northallerton, finally got the incentive she needed to quit smoking after hearing about four-year-old Joshua Peacock, who has a rare form of cerebral palsy.

Joshua, also of Northallerton, has recently taken his first steps using an adapted walker.

The walker costs more than £1,000 and although his first walker was paid for by local health authorities, there is no guarantee of future funding for more equipment Joshua will need as he grows.

Mrs Peel finally managed to quit after receiving help from clinical hypnotherapist Angela Dunn.

And the money she would have paid for the treatment will go towards buying specialist equipment for Joshua.

"I stopped smoking and we raised some money for Joshua - it's been a win win situation," said Mrs Peel.
