TWO lords returned to where it all began for them yesterday - to open a unit at their former school.
Lord Darlington and Lord Mackenzie were friends at Dodmire Infants School, in Darlington, in 1948.
They went back to school yesterday to open a £160,000 nursery unit.
Two classrooms have been built to replace what former pupils affectionately knew as the "tin hut", which was demolished in 1999.
They were created as part of a major scheme of works that also included a wet play area, books and music corners, a writing area and computer facilities.
Future plans for the school include the provision of a larger sand pit, cycle track and an outdoor soft play area.
Headteacher Maureen Dixon said: "We are all very excited about our new nursery.
"By developing an on-site nursery, we are able to offer our children a headstart with their education and prepare them for starting school."
