COMMUNITY groups could receive a prize simply by saying why they are a worthy cause.
The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister is offering community organisations, schools and other groups the chance to scoop a Christmas present of up to £6,000.
All that groups need to do is show their achievements, in words and pictures, demonstrating how they have made a difference.
The achievement may be a community clean-up or a drive to improve a street, park, housing area, village or town centre.
The competition, A Picture of Change, aims to reward the efforts of local groups.
Entries must be submitted by December 15.
Full details are available on the website www.cleanersafergreener.gov.uk
The top three North-East entries will compete for a £1,000 first prize, with the regional winners going to a national final, offering an additional £5,000.
Winning entries will be showcased at a summit staged by the organisers in January.
