YOUNGSTERS battled it out to be crowned champion of a maths challenge yesterday.
Pupils at Burnhope Primary School, in Langley Avenue, Burnhope, near Stanley, took part in the "Number Day".
The 65 children, aged four to 11, were sponsored to take part in maths-related activities to raise cash for the NSPCC's Full Stop Appeal.
Key stage two pupils played Mathionnaire, a contest based on ITV's Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, where pupils scored points for solving maths puzzles and won badges.
Headteacher David Collingwood said: "We did it last year and it went down very well.
"It is a fun day and is for a very worthwhile cause."
Tomorrow, the school will be hosting a Christmas crafts workshop for adults, from 1pm to 3pm.
Staff from the Learning Network Project, a project run by Durham County Council's Return to Learn team and Derwentside College, will be teaching parents how to create gift tags, festive cards and labels.
