A SPECIAL school devoted a day of lessons to World Aids Day to help students understand more about the virus.

The Meadows, in Spennymoor, took part in the Lessons For Life campaign.

Throughout the day, students looked at statistics, looked at how the virus spreads, designed posters and took part in activities.

They also watched a video looking at the plight of a young boy who contracted Aids from his mother.

Diane Richardson, learning support assistant at the school, said: "The kids have got a lot out of this. They were especially affected by the video of the little boy.

"They did not realise how many people were affected by HIV and Aids.''
