A DISTRICT council is giving away 20 garden bird-feeding kits to help feathered friends through the winter.

The free kits have been made out of recycled furniture by schoolchildren from the No Limits Team based at Park View School, in Chester-le-Street.

Councillor Alan Holden, Chester-le-Street District Council's portfolio holder for the environment, said: "This is a super project which really contributes to our innovative project work to protect and enhance the wildlife of our district.

"It also demonstrates that recycled household items in this way can produce quality products which benefit us locally.

"We will ensure that we continue to support the work of the No Limits Team at every opportunity."

Kits will be available to Chester-le-Street residents on a first-come, first-served basis.
