A GREEN labour force is helping create an "outdoor'' classroom for schoolchildren.
Employees from the Durham East Intermediate Labour Market (ILM), which gives paid work to the jobless, have helped youngsters at West Rainton Primary School start a wildlife garden. The workers have planted trees with youngsters as part of National Tree Week. They have also fenced the area and laid an "eco-trail".
The youngsters will now start work on making a pond and meadow in the garden.
Reception teacher Helen Baker said: "The children love learning about the environment and wildlife.
"Thanks to the ILM employees they now have an outside classroom on their doorstep."
