PLANS for more than 120 homes have been approved at the second time of asking.
In October, Taylor Woodrow Developments applied for planning permission to build 127 houses in Ewehurst Road, Flint Hill, near Stanley.
Derwentside District Council's development control committee asked for the proposals to be amended, to make sure all the homes would be an acceptable distance away from another private home being built at the estate's western end, next to Nicholson Buildings.
Revised plans were submitted and the council has now approved the scheme.
The estate will be a mixture of terraced, detached and semi-detached properties, with three to five bedrooms.
Vehicle access to the estate will be from Ewehurst Road and footpaths will be created to link the estate with Flint Hill Bank and the B6168.
A hectare of grassland, used as a public amenity in the days of the old council estate, will be retained.
The developer has contributed an undisclosed sum to help to maintain the open space and will also pay £38,100 towards further play area provision in Derwentside.
