THOUGH many regard it as one of the county's more affluent towns, there is a side to Harrogate that goes largelyunnoticed.
A growing number of people sleep rough in the town and a local church is ensuring they start the day with a meal.
Not all members of the congregation at the town centre church of St Peter's are aware of the growing success of its Breakfast Club.
Volunteers Bruce Wallace and Hannah Beck serve breakfasts six days a week, Monday to Saturdays, to homeless people.
Work starts at 6.30am, ensuring meals are ready to be served just after 8am.
Home-made beef broth is a favourite, while boiled eggs, rolls and cereals are also on offer.
The free breakfasts started in July and between 16 and 20 are prepared each day.
Those running the project are appealing for donations of cereals, long-life milk, tinned soups, ham and cheese for sandwiches and home-made marmalade.
They need a four-slice toaster to cope with growing demands.
Sleeping bags are also needed.
The church has also been distributing tins of food each evening, which costs about £50 a week.
