CUB Scouts have toured a police station, looked behind the scenes at a cinema and explored the control room at the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, as part of a challenge.
Houghton-le-Spring Cub Scouts put their ingenuity to the test when they were given six hours to explore the North-East.
Six teams were given Explorer tickets by bus operator Go North East.
The challenge was to see which group could travel the most miles, with a further prize for the most unusual activity.
That award went to the 1st Herrington group, which visited eight theatres and collected information on children's events at each one.
Other activities included visiting a cinema projection room while a film was showing and seeing how the Millennium Bridge is tilted.
One group was photographed on surveillance cameras and handcuffed at a police station.
John Edwards, leader of 1st Herrington Cubs, said: "The Explorer tickets provided a great opportunity for the Cubs to get together to have a fun day out."
The 1st Washington Cub Group won the trophy for covering the most miles.
