THREE youngsters are to hear carols they have written performed in public for the first time.
The pupils, from Queen Mary's School, Baldersby Park, near Thirsk, will hear them sung at Ripon Cathedral as part of the celebrations for the Christmas season.
Flora Lindsay and Lily Bristow wrote a piece of Christmas music as part of their GCSE, and Charlotte Miles won the school's carol writing competition with her composition called Mary's Gift.
Charlotte's words have been set to music by the school's director of music, Nicholas Carter.
The three compositions will be part of the school's Christmas service, on Wednesday, December 15, at 2.30pm.
The school first held its Christmas service at Ripon Cathedral in 1986.
Mr Carter said: "The service is the grand finale for the school term and a wonderful celebration of Christmas.
"As well as the traditional lessons and carols, the addition of pieces by our own students adds another dimension. Ripon Cathedral is a superb setting and a marvellous place to sing - the acoustics give a bloom to the voices which is very appealing."
