Wearside League: Stokesley SC anticipated a difficult game against Ryhope CW but in the event were in seventh heaven after demolishing their opponents.

The Wearsiders had been in outstanding form but more than met their match as Stokesley romped to a 7-0 victory. The goals flowed from Jonathan Newton (3), Richard Hore (2), Michael Wilson and Craig Johnson.

Stokesley, four goals up by half time, went nap in the 48th minute before adding another two goals in the last 20 minutes.

Leaders Darlington RA had a tougher time of it at Birtley Town where they were forced to come from behind to win their 15th game in 19 attempts.

Tony Thirkell netted from close-range to give Birtley a 19th-minute advantage before RA levelled eight minutes before the break. Warren Byrne celebrated his return to the line-up heading in a right-wing corner.

There were just 13 minutes remaining as RA scored the crucial second goal. Lee Johnston bravely headed in a fierce low cross before Byrne wrapped up the points with his second goal a minute from time, rounding the keeper after receiving a through ball.

New Marske deservedly went ahead after just 15 minutes at Wolviston where they had the better of the first half. Chris Knight overlapped down the right and his pin-pointed cross was knocked home from six yards by Adam Taylor.

It was against the run of play when Wolviston equalised in the 38th minute. A deep ball into the box by Paul Edwards was superbly met by Tyson Master who outjumped goalkeeper Phil Northway to head home.

Wolviston played better in the second period but the game petered out into a draw following the dismissal of Paul Edwards.

Shotton Comrades and Jarrow also drew 1-1. Paul Griffiths raised the hopes of Shotton winning for the fifth time but Jarrow hit back to consolidate sixth position when Mark Rumbles netted the equaliser.

Boldon CA put seven goals past lowly Ferryhill Athletic who failed to reply.

The visitors conceded a tenth minute penalty to Lee Seff and then matched their opponents before going two down on the stroke of half-time.

From then on, it was all Boldon who scored five times in the second period.

Seff completed his hat-trick, David Hopper bagged a brace with Mark Watson and Craig Rolfe also on target.

Cleadon SC were another side in scoring mode at home to Washington Nissan UK.

After leaking a couple of goals, bottom-of-the-table Nissan levelled through Tony Donkin and Kirk Handy but Cleadon ended 5-2 winners with three goals in the final six minutes.

Annfield Plain progressed in the Sunderland Shipowners' Cup at the expense of Gateshead Reserves. After failing to convert numerous chances, the only goal came on the hour from Tony Quinn whose first shot was saved but the ball kindly rebounded to him and he made no mistake second time.

Sport Catterick enjoyed an easy 4-1 victory at Harton and Westoe to also reach the next stage.

Only Martin Butterworth's goal separated the sides at the halfway stage but in the second period David Cook bagged a brace and Carl Handley also scored for Catterick.
