RESIDENTS of a Teesdale market town turned out in droves to witness the switching on of the town's Christmas lights.
The event in Barnard Castle was hosted by Steve Wight from Radio Teesdale.
A speech was given by the town mayor John Watson and the Methodist minister Keith Pearce read a short prayer.
There was also carol singing which was accompanied with music from Barnard Castle band. Children also performed a Nativity tableau.
Councillor Watson said: "I think the whole event went very well, it was a new approach to celebrating Christmas in the town. There was a good turnout and the kids seemed to really enjoy it"
The lights were switched on by Santa who had a grotto in the Methodist church hall where children received a gift.
