A COLLEGE lecturer is hoping to help feed the world 20 years after she did her bit for Band Aid as a student.
Paula Willis was the student representative and was awarded a trophy in 1984 for her part in raising the most money at Darlington College of Technology for the appeal.
Today she is at the organising end of a host of events being planned at Darlington College with the help of fellow tutor in child care Diane Grieves.
Mrs Willis said: "I was a first year student at the college doing a nursery nurse qualification.
"I remember dressing up as a St Trinians schoolgirl and going round town collecting money.
"I've found the picture that was in the Press at the time.
"It's funny how things work out as I'm now back at the college teaching and I ended up marrying the son of the photographer who took the picture."
On Friday, Mrs Willis will be back fundraising again with the help of students.
Events will include fancy dress, raffles a tombola, a sponsored silence, dance and karaoke.
There will be luxury food hampers made up of donated goods, hair and beauty prizes and a cake. Darlington print company CP Offset Ltd has donated the raffle tickets.
Mrs Willis said: "We hoped things would have changed for the better in 20 years and did not expect this to come around again. The students are really keen to get involved and the exercise will be fun and increase their awareness of people living in Third World countries."
