VOLUNTEERS have followed up a revamp of a village cricket hut by planting spring-flowering bulbs.
A team of North Bitchburn residents planted daffodils and tulips outside the hut and crocuses and daffodils around the village.
They joined a Pride Campaign event led by Joanne Morley.
Ms Morley said: "This planting will pose as a great reminder of all the hard work the volunteers have put into this project."
The cricket hut's changing rooms have been plastered free of charge by Jason Howe, of Jason Howe Property Services, and paving stones, donated by Willington Football Club, have been laid to create a path.
The cricket hut is the only building in North Bitchburn available for community use for meetings and events.
It was redecorated by 25 residents in October, for a project co-ordinated by volunteer agency 2D to mark a national Make a Difference Day.
Event organiser Lindsay Wright said: "The whole project has been a huge success.
"The volunteers have not only made a remarkable difference, they have been involved in building new partnerships in their community."
Now the community is appealing for professional help to demolish an old cricket hut and dispose of asbestos tiles.
Anyone who can help is asked to contact Mrs Wright at 2D in Crook Business Centre, by telephoning (01388) 762220.
