A GUIDED walk to say a final farewell to one of Durham's best-known landmarks takes place next week.
After more than 130 years spanning the railway which was to become the East Coast Main Line, the old Relly Bridge is to be demolished later this month.
The bridge, which was completed in 1872, has been replaced with a state-of-the-art £3m replacement which was unveiled last month.
Work to demolish the original bridge, which carries the B6302 over the line near the hamlet of Stonebridge, on the outskirts of Durham City, will take place on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
On Wednesday, December 15, voluntary countryside ranger Michael Jones will lead a 12-mile guided walk around the area, which will include one of the last opportunities to walk under the old bridge before demolition.
The walk starts at 10am from the nearby Broompark picnic area and costs £2 for adults and £1 for concessions. Walkers should bring their own packed lunch.
