A FIVE-FIGURE reward is being offered for information leading to the conviction of a bank manager's killer.

Crimestoppers has offered £10,000 to anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest, charge and conviction of the man who shot Alistair Wilson in Nairn, near Inverness, Scotland.

The father-of-two was shot on the doorstep of his home in the town on Sunday last week. It is thought the killer used an automatic handgun.

Mr Wilson was taken to Raigmore Hospital, in Inverness, after the shooting but died of his injuries.

The £10,000 reward is the highest that can be offered by the charity in Scotland and it is hoped it may encourage someone who may possess vital information about the killer to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Peter MacPhee, who is leading the inquiry, said reports of a speedboat escape across the Moray Firth by the gunman "had all but been ruled out".

Officers yesterday continued to sift through a mountain of information gathered after a road block operation at the weekend.

All motorists and pedestrians passing through Nairn between 6pm and 8.30pm on Sunday were questioned on their whereabouts.

It is hoped Mr Wilson's widow, Veronica, who answered the door to the gunman, will make some kind of public appeal this week in an effort to trace her husband's killer.
