A TOWN band is preparing for a premiere.

Leyburn Band was reformed just over a year ago and has made regular public appearances ever since.

To round off the year in style, the band will be playing a first anniversary Christmas concert later this month. A highlight of the event will be the first public performance of Leyburn, a suite in three parts written by local musician Rod Baxter.

Bandmaster John Nix said: "It's usually only the big name bands that have music written for them, so we are especially grateful to Rod for composing and arranging this attractive suite of music for us."

The concert will be in St Matthew's Church, Leyburn, on Saturday, at 7.30pm.

Advance tickets costing £4 (£3 for concessions) are available from Sanderson's, High Street, Leyburn.
