A DRIVER died yesterday after his car was involved in a collision with a lorry near the village of Langley Park in County Durham.

The dead man, who has not been named but is known to come from Lanchester in County Durham, was driving a silver Vauxhall Astra when it was involved in a collision with a heavy goods vehicle heading towards Durham City.

The car had travelled down the C10 road from Burnhope, known locally as Jaw Blades Bank, and had just turned onto the A691 when the accident occurred at 3.08pm yesterday.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road, the main route from Lanchester into Durham City, was closed until 6.40pm last night.

Police are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to ring the accident investigation unit on 0191-375 2519.
