THE announcement by the Transport Secretary, Alistair Darling, this week, of a £700m boost for transport in the Yorkshire and Humber area is good news for some schemes but disappointing for others.
The upgrade of the Al(M), comprising the sections from Wetherby to Walshford, Bramham to Wetherby and Dishforth to Barton has been included and work is expected to start next year.
But the £27m Scarborough integrated scheme, which had received approval subject to ministerial confirmation, has not been included.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire County Council client unit, Brian Jones, said: "The council welcomes the news that the upgrade of the A1(M) has received funding but we are very disappointed about the Scarborough scheme, as this contract was actively geared-up to start construction work in February."
This scheme involves a by-pass of Scarborough and Lebberston.
"We will be lobbying MPs and the minister about this very disappointing decision," he added
