A MAN is facing jail after he admitted a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.

Edward Wilson, 25, was the driver of a Ford Mondeo that was involved in a head-on crash with a Metro being driven by William Grainge.

Mr Grainge, 54, from Great Ayton, North Yorkshire, died two weeks after the accident, on February 21, on the A173 near Stokesley.

Wilson, of Viking Road, Acomb, York, appeared at Teesside Crown Court yesterday, where he also pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified.

Graeme Gaston, prosecuting, said Wilson accepted that he was driving too quickly and that he had been drinking, although he was not drunk. He was also prepared to plead guilty to having no insurance.

A further charge of failing to provide driving documents was not likely to be pursued by the prosecution, added Mr Gaston.

Wilson, who broke his neck in the accident, wore a neck brace in the dock and was said to be still receiving treatment for his injuries.

Steven Pidcock, for Wilson, said he had been traumatised by the accident, for which he had always admitted responsibility.

Judge Tony Briggs adjourned the case for reports and said he would aim to sentence Wilson on January 7.

The judge said: "All sentencing options on you including custody are open."
