CHILDREN at a Darlington school raised more than £1,000 to throw a Christmas party for elderly people in their area.
Pupils at Hurworth School Maths and Computing College organised an afternoon's entertainment.
The guests were greeted by ten Christmas elves before enjoying a festive buffet and free bingo.
Every tutor group in year seven got involved in raising money for the event.
Fundraising ideas included a sponsored trampoline jump and collecting from family and friends.
A school spokesman said: "It is good that the children got involved in fundraising because they have learned about citizenship.
"They were happy to do it and really enjoyed themselves."
The entertainment started with renditions of Winter Wonderland and Jingle Bells, followed by dancing by year eight students.
Fifteen-year-old Cameron Dulston played bagpipes while his sister, Catrina, 11, demonstrated her Scottish sword dancing skills.
The afternoon was rounded off with wartime tunes and party music.
