A RADIO station bidding for a commercial broadcasting licence was preparing to go live on the Internet yesterday.
Northallerton FM will switch to a full-time Internet service when its month-long trial comes to an end later this month.
Station manager Richard Wyeth said: "The feedback from our broadcasts has been terrific and there is definitely a void to be filled.
"Northallerton being broadband-enabled means that the take-up on the town's first Internet station should be very good and will be marketed on our FM broadcasts in the run-up to Christmas, making for an easy switch over from FM to Internet."
The station, which features former Radio 1 DJs Mark Page and Dave Lee Travis, is one of three bidding for a commercial licence to broadcast to Northallerton and the surrounding area.
The new Internet service, which will go live at www.northallertonfm.com, was launched yesterday by the town's Mayor, Councillor Tony Hall.
He performed the ceremony at the Northallerton FM studio at Wake's Service Centre, on the Standard Way Industrial Estate.
