THE man in charge of the Queen's parks has visited the region to pick up tips from green-fingered people in the North.
Dennis Clarke, services manager of the Royal Parks, which includes Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, called on Newcastle City Council's grounds maintenance team for advice on how to improve his sites.
David Hay, head of the Newcastle department, gave him a tour of the city's green spaces.
Mr Clarke said: "I was impressed by the dedication and commitment to standards displayed by those we met and the quality of maintenance in the sites visited."
City councillor Wendy Taylor said: "It should come as no surprise then that the Royal Parks might look to Newcastle when planning their future.
"It is a fantastic compliment to have been included in the consultations for the future of some of the most famous parks in Britain.
