OPPONENTS have submitted more than 100 objections over plans for a meat cutting, processing and packing business alongside the A1.
The scheme, proposed by P Hutton Limited, would also involve seasonal killing and preparation of poultry and game at Rougham Farm, Marton-cum-Grafton, near Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire.
The plant would partly replace facilities at Castle Ings, Knaresborough.
In addition to the 102 objectors, the planning application, due to be heard by Harrogate Borough Council on Tuesday, has also brought objections from Marton-cum-Grafton Parish Council and the Coneythorpe and Clareton Parish Meeting.
Eight letters of support have been sent, saying the scheme would diversify the applicant's farm and increase employment.
One supporter said: "There is a lack of facilities for organic meat production in the Yorkshire region and this scheme should be supported."
Objectors fear it would set a precedent for other development and that large buildings would affect the area.
One objector said: "Having previously refused a planning application for an abattoir, I can see no reason why the council should grant permission for the building of this industrial site for meat processing and packaging."
Planning officer Andy Hough recommended refusal, saying the scheme went against planning policies.
