A CHARITY that helps victims of crime has closed its last district office in County Durham.
Victim Support announced a restructuring programme earlier this year, in the face of a large funding shortfall.
Its staff based across the county have been moved to two central offices, covering the north and south of the county.
The last to go were staff and volunteers covering Easington, who worked from an office in Yoden Way, Peterlee.
They have relocated to Court Lane, Durham.
Sergeant Tracey Whelan, of Peterlee police said: "Victim Support provides an absolutely vital service, and we hope the changes will not deter those in need from seeking help.
"The staff and volunteers do a terrific job helping people when they are feeling vulnerable after a crime, or worried by the thought of giving evidence at court."
The Court Lane office now covers Derwentside, Chester-le-Street and Durham City.
The charity had to close the Peterlee office, along with others in Consett, Darlington, Chester-le-Street and Bishop Auckland after the Home Office cut funding. The group can be called on 0191-383 1294.
